Terms of Service

1. What AEGIS is
AEGIS is an information and reminder service for operators of facilities that hold hazardous materials in California and New Jersey. We tell you which agency governs your site, when its annual filing is due and what it charges, and we remind you before that date.
The two states work differently, and we treat them differently. In California, 104 separate agencies each set their own annual date; we tell you which one governs your site and what that date is. In New Jersey, one statewide program sets a single date — March 1 — and filing is done through eCRTK; we tell you what is due and remind you before it.
2. What AEGIS is not
- We do not file on your behalf. You prepare and submit your own filing to your agency.
- We never ask for your CERS sign-in, and we will never ask you for it.
- We are not a law firm and we do not give legal advice.
3. Accuracy, and what we do when we are wrong
Figures are taken from each agency's own published materials and from the California Health and Safety Code. Every figure carries its source and the date we checked it. Where we could not obtain a figure, we say so and tell you what to ask — we do not fill the gap with a guess.
Agencies change dates and fees without telling anyone. If you find an error, tell us. We correct it and show the correction date rather than quietly overwriting it.
4. Your responsibility
The filing obligation is yours. A reminder is a reminder, not a guarantee. We recommend you confirm your date with your agency at least once; we give you the contact details and tell you how to ask.
5. Subscription and price
California and New Jersey are billed differently. Both are set out here.
5-1. California
- US$9.88 per month, per facility for your first six months (the founding rate).
- From the seventh month the regular rate of US$39.88 per month applies. This is a scheduled change, not a price rise we may or may not make. It is shown on the page where you sign up, and it is stated again here so that there is no doubt.
- Billing is monthly, by card, through our payment provider.
- Cancel at any time. There is no minimum term, and no charge for canceling.
5-2. New Jersey
- First month: US$9.88.
- From the second month: one annual payment, charged once a year. There is no monthly option in New Jersey.
- We accept a limited number of New Jersey subscriptions. When that number is reached, we stop accepting new ones rather than take money we cannot serve.
- Cancel at any time. An annual payment already made is not refunded for the remainder of the year; you keep access until the year you paid for ends.
5-3. Both states
- If we raise the regular price for new subscribers, that rise does not apply to you while your subscription stays active. The change from the founding rate to the regular rate described in 5-1 is not a price rise: it is the schedule you agreed to.
- We never see or hold your card details. They are handled by our payment provider.
6. If a payment fails
Nothing is switched off immediately. Our payment provider retries over the following days, and your reminders keep running while it does. We email you when a payment fails. If the retries are exhausted, the subscription ends.
7. Cancellation
- You can cancel at any time from inside your account.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep access until then.
- We do not refund the current period.
- You can undo a cancellation at any time before it takes effect, from the link in the confirmation email.
8. Your data after cancellation
We keep your filing record for 12 months in case you come back, then delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner and we will. See our Privacy Policy.
9. Limits
Our liability is limited to the fees you have paid us. We are not liable for penalties an agency assesses against you. That is the honest position of any information service, and we would rather state it plainly than bury it.
10. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we email you before the change takes effect.
11. Governing law
The laws of the United States, and of the state in which the subscriber's facility is located, govern this agreement. The specific venue is not yet fixed — it is set when the business is registered and the payment account is opened, and this page will state it then. We do not put a court on this page that we have not confirmed. Nothing in this agreement limits any right you have under the consumer protection laws of your state.
